Colorado Lawmaker Wants Columbus Day Renamed Statewide
DENVER (CBS4) - A Colorado lawmaker is working on a bill that would rename Columbus Day "Indigenous People's Day."
In October the Denver City Council passed a proclamation renaming the holiday. Rep. Joe Salazar's bill would rename the holiday statewide.
"This is about whether a state should recognize as a state holiday an individual who engaged in genocidal acts," said Salazar, D-Thornton.
Salazar says the last big push at the Capitol to rename the holiday was in 1992.
