Colorado Getting $600,000 From Feds To Deal With Floods

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Colorado is getting some help from the federal government to try to prevent flooding and deal with its effects.

Sen. Mark Udall announced Friday that the state is among five western states getting $600,000 each from the Natural Resources Conservation Service for emergency watershed projects. The projects could include removing debris caught in culverts and under bridges and efforts to prevent soil erosion.

In Greeley, officials have closed several roads because of high water from the Poudre River.

The high water and debris has also led the Larimer County sheriff's office to restrict recreational access to the Poudre.

Inner tubes, air mattresses and small inflatable rafts have been banned from the river until the waters calm down. Officials estimate they'll lift the restrictions by early July.

Officials say people in larger rafts and kayaks can still use the river.
