Colorado Astronaut Scott Carpenter Suffers Stroke
DENVER (CBS4) - Astronaut Malcolm Scott Carpenter from Colorado is recovering from a stroke.
Carpenter, 88, had a stroke last week. He's being moved to a rehabilitation center.
Carpenter is from Boulder but now lives in Vail. He was the second American astronaut to orbit the Earth after John Glenn and the fourth American to enter into space.
He was one of NASA's seven Mercury program group, which also included Glenn, Gus Grissom and Alan Shepard.
A popular park for sledding and swimming in Boulder -- Scott Carpenter Park -- is named in his honor. It includes a large rocket-shaped climbing structure at its playground.
