Colorado Artist Creates 'Saint' Tebow Retablo

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) -- A Colorado artist known for her Santa Fe's Spanish Market awards has created a new "saint" on her latest retablo - Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.

Catherine Robles Shaw of Nederland, Colo., recently created the $195 Tebow retablo using an image of the Broncos quarterback kneeing down in his well-known "Tebowing" prayer pose.

Retalos are traditional Latino devotional painting that use iconography from the Catholic church.

The 59-year-old Shaw says her Tebow boards, made of dirt and tree bark, aren't much different from her other retablos that feature San Pascual, the patron saint of cooking, or San Ysidro, patron of farmers.

The long-time Broncos fan said she got the idea while watching the Dec. 11 Broncos game against the Chicago Bears, when Tebow led his team to a comeback victory.
