Broncos, Teammates, Alumni Attend Celebration Of Life For Demaryius Thomas At Georgia Tech
(CBS4) - Former Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was celebrated in his Georgia hometown on Monday. It was an emotional day at his alma mater, Georgia Tech for friends, family and former teammates as they gathered to remember and honor his legacy.
It was a day of sadness, but also healing and closure for those who knew and loved DT.
The Denver Broncos brought a group of about 40 including current players Kareem Jackson, Justin Simmons, Courtland Sutton and Bradley Chubb. John Elway and Joe Ellis also made the trip along with a handful of alumni including Champ Bailey and Rod Smith.
Several speakers shared their memories of DT and after the ceremony, Joel Dreessen and Bailey talked about what made DT so special.
"He was the perfect teammate. His impact on the community, how hard he worked at practice, how important football was to him and then on top of all that, he was an absolute baller... so, just, the perfect teammate, the perfect friend, he's in a better place," said Dreessen.
"This is somebody who cared about a lot of people, I mean, he really gave you his time, he gave you his smiles, he gave you his money if he had to. I'm sure that I owe him a couple of dollars. I know that he's paid for things for me. But he's just a blessing. Unbelievable kid, man... unbelievable," said Bailey.
