Bus Rapid Transit On Display

Written by Traffic Specialist Joel Hillan

RTD is displaying a generation of bus they hope to use in the area in the near future. They are called Bus Rapid Transit or BRT and are customized to the needs off the community. There are more doors and the doors are closer to the ground to allow people to get on an off quickly.

The Boulder Turnpike FasTracks project uses 18 miles of BRT lines from I-25 to Table Mesa in Boulder. Construction on new lanes to accommodate the BRTs through this stretch will start soon and is expected to come to an end December of 2014.

These new buses are on display starting today. You can see the bus at Market Street Station until 1:30 this afternoon. It then moves on to Westminster and can be seen in the West bound side of US 36 from 3 to 6pm.

Tomorrow it can be seen at the Municipal Building in Boulder from 8am-1:30pm, then it is on to the Longmont Park-n-Ride at 8th and Coffman from 3-6pm.

Thursday it will be at Broomfield inside the Park-n-Ride at Gate B from 7-9am and then finishes its Denver-area tour in the parking lot by the Kiss-n-Ride on East bound US 36 in Louisville/Superior.
