Broncos Exec Russell Appears In Court On DUI Charge
BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (CBS4) - The Broncos front office executive accused of crashing into two cars in the high country while driving drunk made his first appearance in court on Tuesday.
Matt Russell, the team's Director of Player Personnel, is accused of DUI after he allegedly ran in to the back of a police car in Summit County over the 4th of July holiday.
On Tuesday morning Russell appeared in Summit County Court with family members and his attorney Harvey Steinberg. Steinberg has sucessfully represented several Broncos players in the past.
Steinberg said in court that the case needed to be continued because there is some investigation work that still needs to take place.
Russell is accused of rear-ending a car in Frisco, exchanging information with the other driver and then continuing on to Breckenridge.
Police were then on the lookout for a drunk driver in a black truck when the truck police say was driven by Russell rear-ended a Breckenrige officer's cruiser. That police officer spent some time in the hospital and some significant time away from work.
Russell allegedly blew a .246 in a field breathalyzer test.
He posted bond a few hours after being arrested.
Russell was suspended indefinitely from the team and is being provided with "confidential treatment, rehabilitation and counseling services." The Broncos organization said he must comply with these programs before he is allowed to return to work.
