Breckenridge Businesses Reopen Following Pesky Gas Leak
BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (CBS4) - A block of North Main Street in Breckenridge was fully reopened Saturday morning following a nearly weeklong closure due to a natural gas leak.
The leak awas was detected last Sunday. Xcel Energy worked around the clock throughout the week to locate, contain and then mitigate the leak.
Crews with Xcel said they fixed the gas leak on Monday, but pockets of gas were still hiding underneath the ground, which kept businesses closed in the 300 block of North Main.
"Ready Paint Fire, Stella's Hungry Horse, Paragon Lodging, and Breckenridge Heritage Alliance have resumed normal business operations. Northside Pizza and Avalanche Sports plan to reopen within the next few days," the Breckenridge Police Department said in a statement released on Facebook.
There will still be some intermittent road closures so permanent pavement can be laid down where work was done.
The cause of the leak is still under investigation.
