Boulder Neighborhood On Alert After 2 Robberies At Gunpoint
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- A normally quiet neighborhood in Boulder is on alert after two people have been robbed at gunpoint. There is one other similarity linking the crimes-- in both cases the victims met their attackers online.
Both crimes happened near 22nd and Mariposa in Boulder in the past month.
"Actually, it doesn't surprise me, I mean, there are a lot of dangerous people out there and Craigslist is an easy way to trap people," said one Boulder resident who didn't want to be identified. "Meeting people late at night is just not a good idea if you don't know them."
In the first case, a man arranged to meet a woman he met on Craigslist to smoke pot. When he arrived, a man with a gun robbed him.
In the second case, a man planned to meet a woman he met on Tinder. When he showed up, the same thing happened.
"You like to think that people are good because their intentions are good but it doesn't surprise me, with that kind of stuff going on," said another Boulder resident.
Police have this advice for meeting someone you met online:
- Meet in a public place.
- Tell friends or family where you are going.
- Bring someone with you.
- Trust your instincts.
Police do not have much of a suspect description but ask anyone who was in the area and saw something suspicious to call authorities.
