Boulder, Greeley Taking Wildfire Precautions

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -- For the first time in 15 years, the Boulder Fire Department Wildland Division is sending out fire patrols to find extreme fire conditions in an effort to prevent serious wildfires.

Spokesman Gary Connelly says team members will be trying to determine fire potential, winds and people at risk. The team will work 14-hour shifts.

Officials in Greeley say they also have been preparing for disasters like the one in northern Colorado that is blamed for one death and damage to more than 100 structures.

Scenarios they've studied include shuttering Bellvue Water Treatment Plant because of contaminated water from debris and runoff, and the idea that Horsetooth Reservoir water also could become contaminated.
