Bin Laden Hunter On Trial In Colorado Weapons Case
GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado man who went to Pakistan to try to kill Osama bin Laden is on trial on a charge of owning a handgun as a convicted felon.
The Greeley Tribune reports an attorney for Gary Faulkner argued Tuesday he shot at three alleged intruders on May 6 in self-defense.
Prosecutors say Faulkner didn't have to fire because he had already chased the men out of his home.
He faces up to 18 months in prison if convicted.
Faulkner was convicted of attempted theft in 1988. Colorado law allows convicted felons to own weapons, but only for self-defense.
Faulkner gained notoriety in 2010 when he traveled to Pakistan to hunt down bin Laden. He was detained by Pakistani authorities and then sent home.
