Billups Says Nuggets New Coach Will 'Develop Young Talent'
DENVER (CBS4) - Chauncey Billups is back in Denver hosting his annual youth camp after finishing his 16th year in the NBA with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Billups, a Denver native, is a free agent and Father Time isn't on his side, but he's not ready to retire yet.
"It's always good to be a free agent, but only when you're wanted, only when teams want you," Billups said. "I'm just kind of taking a pause right now. Hopefully I'm in a position where I'm going to play another couple years and have a chance to win it again and ride off to the sunset."
Billups said he still watches the Denver Nuggets closely and he thinks the Nuggets got a very coach in Brian Shaw.
"For one, you're getting a great man. You're getting a great man, you're getting a guy who comes from unbelievable basketball stock," Billups said. "His pedigree is championship pedigree. I think, especially for the roster that the Nuggets have, you need somebody that is going to develop the young talent. I think they couldn't have got a better guy to do that."
The George Washington High School alum will be inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame on Thursday night in downtown Denver with 12 other former high school athletes, including NFL great Joe Theismann.
