Big Names Inducted Into Colorado Music Hall Of Fame
DENVER, Colo. (CBS4) - The Colorado Music Hall of Fame has some new faces.
This year's class included country rock band Poco, Firefall, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Stephen Stills and his side project, Manassas.
Timothy B. Schmit of the Eagles returned to Colorado to reunite with former Poco band members at the Paramount Theater in Denver on Friday.
"It's quite an honor … very pleased to be here, everybody is treating us really good," Schmit said. "It's good to get back with these guys for a short time and play some music."
Poco had many hit songs in the 1970s, including "Crazy Love." Richie Furay founded Buffalo Springfield and Poco. He and his band moved to Boulder in 1971 and never left. Furay says at that time Colorado was the center of the music universe.
"Caribou Ranch opened up and there were a lot of people who came here," Furay said. "It became a little Mecca for music."
Furay said he is humbled by the Fall of Fame induction.
"Just want to thank everyone for enjoying our music. It was a great time to make music and I know made a lot of people happy during that time," he said.
Firefall is best known for their hits, "You Are The Woman" and "Just Remember I Love You."
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band moved to Colorado from Los Angeles in the early 1970s and had hit songs, including the 1970 cover of Jerry Jeff Walker's "Mr. Bojangles."
"In 1971 we all moved here and spent the next 20 years here. In that rime we recorded several albums," John McEuen with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band said. "The best thing I can say is 'thank you' for sticking with us."
Manassas was formed by Stills during a hiatus from Crosby, Stills and Nash in 1971.
Gov. John Hickenlooper was on hand to pay tribute to the musicians.
Past inductees to the Colorado Music Hall of Fame include John Denver, Judy Collins, and the Serendipity singers. The next group of inductees includes Dan Fogelberg, Joe Walsh and Barnstorm, and the Caribou Ranch.
