Top Kids Consignment Stores In Denver

Economy-minded parents are always on the hunt for gently-used clothing in their kids' current or next size. Area thrift shops such as Goodwill, Savers, ARC and the Salvation Army offer excellent value, but the most efficient shopping for such items is often at consignment stores that specialize in children's, infants' and perhaps maternity items. If your kids are brand-conscious, consignment stores are more likely to carry the labels they love. Here are some of the more popular ones in the Denver metro area.

Back On The Rack

600 S. Holly Street
Denver, CO 80246
(303) 355-0191
backontherack.biz
The space may be small, but Back On The Rack packs in a lot of inventory, sometimes to the point of bursting at the seams. You'll find coats, sweaters, dresses, pants, jeans, racks of tiny shoes, baby gear, onesies, sports equipment, bike helmets, and strollers. Brands range from lower cost Old Navy and Target to higher-quality Columbia, Gymboree, and Oshkosh B'gosh. We also like that they check each toy for all parts and then shrink wrap them into a single package so you can be sure little hands haven't trotted off with some vital small piece.

Childish Things

3183 Walnut St.
Boulder, CO 80302
(303) 442-2703
childishthingsconsign.com

Thrifty moms sell through and buy from Childish Things, Boulder's only kid-oriented consignment shop. It carries gently used apparel and footwear from babies to pre-teens, maternity clothes and some women's clothing too. Toys, educational material, children's books, small tables and chairs, and also a line of new art supplies suitable for pint-size Picassos are always available. Outdoorsy families can find strollers, jogging strollers, baby backpacks and some kids' sporting goods. Quality nursery furnishings such as cribs, changing, tables and playpens are sometimes available as well. Childish Things keeps a want list for special requests and holds periodic sidewalk sales to reduce inventory and offer greater savings.

Gumballs A Kids Outlet

5787 S Gallup St.
Littleton, CO 80120
(303) 795-6557

Sure it's crowded, but Gumballs always has something new on hand and Littleton families love the sales, as well as the inside scoop on local events and activities. Brand name isn't as important as clothing that is cute, clean and in good shape, good for parents who have "outgrown" looking at labels. (Though if you are into high-end brands there's a specially designated rack.) You'll also find quality games and puzzles, shoes and items for infants up to pre-teens.

Kid To Kid

15035 E. Mississippi Ave. (at Chambers)
Aurora, Colorado 80012
(303) 752.2757
kidtokid.com/home/home/32/store.html

Part of a national franchise, Kid To Kid wows parents with excellent apparel, reasonable prices and a well-organized set-up. In other words you can get in and get out. The store is bright, clean and chockablock full of bargain clothing and toys and books for baby and older. Parents rate the stock one level above a mainstream thrift store, though a few "treasures" pop up now and then. And praise is high for how staffers make everyone – Dads, too – welcome.

Little Tykes Trading Post

15250 E. Hampden Ave.
Aurora, CO 80014
(720) 870-7191
littletykestradingpost.com

Located in southeast Aurora, Little Tykes specializes in baby gear & equipment, clothes (sizes 0-10), toys, nursery furniture, books, and videos/DVDs that are in great condition for resale. This is a spacious store where you won't be tripping over stuff and can even navigate strollers between the racks. A special "Kids Corner" with playhouse, TV, and reading corner allows the little ones to play while parents shop. And children can even "test drive" many of the toys before purchase. Plus, grandparents get 10% off their entire purchase on Tuesdays.

Once Upon A Child

8025 Sheridan Blvd., Suite M
Arvada, CO 80003
(303) 427-5437

8055 W Bowles Ave. #2T
Littleton CO 80123
(303) 973-3337

700 Ken Pratt Blvd.
Longmont, CO 80501
(303) 772-5437
onceuponachild.com

Owned by the same folks who brought you Play It Again Sports and Plato's Closet, Once Upon A Child sells gently-used clothes, shoes/boots, infant & children's furniture, toys, equipment and more in good or like-new condition. Bargain shoppers who value quality will find what they need with brands including Gymboree, Baby Gap, Graco, Joovy and more. The independently-owned and operated stores, even offer a handful of deeply-discounted new items. You can be assured that staffers double-check all used and new products to see they meet safety standards and any recalled product is immediately pulled. Parents also like Once Upon A Child for Halloween costumes or outfits the kiddos might need for school plays and classroom projects.
