Bear Captured, Another Sought In Glenwood Springs

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A 300-pound bear was captured in a live trap in Glenwood Springs last week. Wildlife officials warn a bear twice as big is still roaming a neighborhood.

Wildlife officers set the trap on the east end of Glenwood Springs after reports of bears rolling trash cans around at night. The bear was captured overnight Thursday and will be tranquilized and tagged before being released somewhere near Meeker.

Authorities say a bear twice as big is still in the area. Wildlife officials are stepping up warnings that residents must secure their garbage in certified wildlife resistant containers if they want to leave garbage outside.

Glenwood Springs Police Chief Terry Wilson says no tickets have been issued yet this spring for trash violations, but that may soon change.
