Bail Change Approved By State Senate

DENVER (AP) - A change to the way suspected criminals post bond while awaiting trial has narrowly passed the Colorado Senate.

Wednesday's vote came despite objections that the bill could put bail bondsmen out of work.

The measure allows some defendants to avoid going through a bondsman to post bail. Several dozen bondsmen were outside the Capitol Wednesday morning shouting for the Senate to reject the idea.

The measure passed 18-17 despite objections from Republicans that the measure could cost jobs. The proposal now heads to the House.
