Backcountry Skier Died Near Silverthorne
SILVERTHORNE, Colo. (CBS4)- A man from Denver died skiing in the backcountry in Summit County Friday.
The Summit County Rescue Group deployed 36 rescuers to Silver Couloir on Buffalo Mountain near Silverthorne to help the injured skier and his companions at about 3 p.m. Friday.
When rescue crews arrived, CPR was in progress on Jeff Ipsen. The 37-year-old was skiing with his brother and two friends when he apparently fell and slid approximately 1,500 feet down Silver Couloir and struck some rocks.
The cause of death for Ipsen is blunt force trauma.
