Aurora Set To Declare Stock Show Site Blighted

AURORA, Colo. (AP) - Aurora is going ahead with plans to declare a new development blighted to help build a huge hotel and stock-show facility in Aurora

A piece of property slated for the Gaylord hotel complex is on the agenda for a public hearing Monday night.

According to the Aurora Sentinel, Aurora City Council members say the blight declaration is simply a formality, while critics of the issue say empty agricultural land shouldn't be declared blight for cities to give out tax breaks to developers.

The declaration on 125 acres near Denver International Airport would provide $100 million of the $300 million in incentives Aurora has promised to developers.
