Aurora Police Investigate 2 Separate Memorial Day Fatal Shootings

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Aurora police need the public's help to solve two homicides that happened on Memorial Day.

The first shooting happened at East Alameda and South Ironton Street. Police got a call that shots had been fired, but when they arrived they didn't immediately see anything except a trail of debris that included pieces of branches from bushes in the parking lot of this strip mall.

Officers followed the trail of debris and found a man passed out in his car on the north side of Alameda. Police believe that he was sitting in a parking lot on the south side of the street when he was shot. They say he then tried to drive away, crossing Alameda before passing out.

Although paramedics tried to revive the man, he died. His identity has not been released.

The second shooting happened just before midnight on Memorial Day outside of the Du Rozz Restaurant & Lounge, which is located on East Alameda just east of Interstate 225.

Police say they were called to help with a rowdy crowd. While they were on their way they got a call saying a man had been shot. He was taken to an area hospital but died.

Police are offering a large reward in the case because they believe there could be many witnesses.

"With a bar on a holiday weekend right around closing time, we just feel like there's somebody who knows something and we're asking those individuals to come forward," Frank Fania with Aurora police said.

The man's identity has also not been released.

The Aurora Police Department is offering a total of $7,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the second case. Anyone with information on either shooting is asked to call Detective Mark Yacano at (303) 739-6090 or Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP.
