Aurora Officer Reaches Deal In Street Racing Case
AURORA, Colo. (AP) -- An Aurora police officer has been sentenced to three months of probation and 50 hours community service after pleading guilty to a charge stemming from a car race.
Officer Jason Pray pleaded guilty Aug. 17 to participating in a speed contest. The Aurora Sentinel reports that prosecutors dropped the more serious charges of child abuse and reckless endangerment as well as speeding, reckless driving and engaging in an exhibition of speed.
Authorities previously said Pray had two children in the car with him during a drag race in March.
Authorities say Pray and another man reached speeds of up to 81 mph in a 40-mph zone before they crashed. Aurora police spokesman Detective Bob Friel says the department has launched an internal affairs investigation.
