Arvada Attempted Abduction Could Be Related To Aurora Incidents

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Two women believe that a man preying on children in Arvada is also roving the streets of Aurora.

Nicole Sylvester, 22, was just blocks away from her Aurora home around 3 a.m. when she claims a strange man tried to abduct her. He pulled up beside her as she was walking and told her to get in his car.

"He started getting really insistent and he said, 'Hey, there are a lot of really not nice people in this neighborhood, just get in the car,' " Sylvester said.

Sylvester eventually ran away and called police after hearing a similar incident happened to her friend.

"It was really suspicious. Finally at one point he waved out of his window urging me to keep walking," Sylvester said.

Savanna Russell, 17, was also walking alone during the day when a man motioned for her to come to his car. Both women gave police the same description.

"When I saw him, he was much older -- 40s or 50s," Sylvester said.

"He had like graying hair. Shorter on the sides, longer on top," Russell said.

They contacted CBS4 after hearing a similar suspect description in an Arvada attempted abduction case. The suspects even drove similar cars.

"He was driving a sedan; a grey sedan," Sylvester said.

Arvada police released a sketch of their suspect. Aurora police are still investigating the cases involving the two women.

Arvada police and Aurora police are not yet saying that the suspect in either city is the same person, but after seeing the sketch of the Arvada suspect, the two Aurora victims are confident that it's the man that approached them also.

For now Aurora police have classified the recent cases as a suspicious person, not an attempted abduction. They're hoping someone with information will come forward.

Arvada police said they've received a number of leads in the case.
