Another DU Student Sexually Assaulted

DENVER (CBS4) - Police are concerned an attacker near the University of Denver could become more brazen.

The latest attack happened Thursday night in the 2,000 block of South High Street, just blocks from the DU campus.

In the latest attack the victim yelled at him after he grabbed her buttocks and he ran. In all four of the sexual assaults the victims have been women. The man has tried to fondle them right on the street. They have all either been walking or jogging alone.

Thursday night the woman was walking alone and passed a man in a grey hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. Moments later she heard someone running up behind her and it was the same man. He grabbed her buttocks. She yelled at him and he ran toward the busy intersection of High and Asbury. The woman reported it to campus security, which has now sent out a warning email with safety tips to all students.

High Street is a busy street that not only borders the campus but student housing. The street is constantly bustling with groups of students. But in each case, which has been similar to the latest one, the women have been walking or jogging alone, which is why some students are taking precautions.

"I really try not to be by myself too much, especially at night. Normally I travel in groups," student Kieryn Wurts said.

Campus security says be aware and use the buddy system at all times, walking with someone else or in groups. Always carry a cell phone with security and 911 in speed dial. If being followed, change direction and head for a well-lit and populated area.

The campus also offers a rape aggression defense class that students could take. They can also get safety whistles at the campus Safety Center. That's also where they can report a crime.

Denver police are offering a $2,000 reward for tips that lead to an arrest.
