AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Aurora police say they have located an 8-year-old girl who went missing.

Authorities set up a command post Tuesday morning near Gateway High School on South Sable Boulevard and searched for the girl for about two hours.

The girl, a student at Jewell Elementary School, was found safe just before 9 a.m. CBS4 was on hand when the girl walked up to police officers.

The girl had wanted to walk to school and her mom originally told her no, but then agreed and followed her daughter in a car. But her mom lost sight of her and the child went to a friend's home rather than to her school.

An Amber Alert was not issued in the case.
