5-Year-Old Girl Recovering After Fall From 2nd Story Window

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - A 5-year-old Lakewood girl is recovering in the hospital after falling from a second floor window in her family townhome.

Over the weekend Alexis Delgadillo fractured her skull. Her parents say she was leaning on the screen to watch her friends playing below. They were downstairs in the kitchen when it happened.

"I realized when I got out there the screen was popped out from the top window and panic definitely set in," father Mike Delgadillo said. "My first reaction was to see where she was at."

"She asked me how she got her black eye, asked me if we saw her fall, asked me if we cried," mother Christina Delgadillo said. "She remembers the sitting part but anything after that is kind of a big blur to her."

Safety experts urge parents to put child-proof locks or bars on their windows. They say screens are meant to keep insects out not children in.

Alexis is expected to go home Tuesday and eventually make a full recovery.
