Abortion ban going into effect in Iowa. Here’s what to know

The law bans most abortions once a heartbeat is detected, which is around six weeks of pregnancy. When the Iowa Supreme Court refused to take up the case, a district judge ordered the law to go into effect at 8 a.m. on Monday.
