The first stumbling block is food. Federal law requires the district to have milk on hand for all 17,000 students, along with nutritious food.
17,000 students in the Waukegan area are on extended vacation because of teachers strike that's almost three weeks old. Both sides resumed negotiations Wednesday at noon, the school district said in a press release.
Talks between the Waukegan school district and teachers ended without a deal Tuesday night in an attempt to end the nearly three-week-old strike. The school district says school has been cancelled Wednesday.
There is no school again Tuesday for public school students in Waukegan as a teachers strike will enter its 12th day.
