A 19-year-old is charged with reckless homicide and other charges after police said he was driving drunk when he crashed an SUV into a Metra train.
Metra police said 19-year-old Moises Perez drove around working crossing gates and lights near 87th and Baltimore.
Service has since returned to normal on the BNSF, Milwaukee District North, Union Pacific Northwest, and Union Pacific West lines.
A northbound Metra Electric line train hit an SUV around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at the crossing near 87th and Baltimore.
According to Metra, the pedestrian was struck by the train near Oak Park at the Berwyn stop just before 10:30 a.m.
The crash caused extensive delays on the North Central Service and Milwaukee District West lines.
The car went around the crossing gates for the CSX freight train tracks at the Park Avenue crossing near 153rd Street and Park Avenue. The car then collided with the side of a CSX locomotive and was dragged almost two city blocks before being dislodged near the Broadway Avenue crossing.
