Chicago police tell us the truck driver tried to swerve out of the way when another car drove into oncoming traffic.

Kendall Johnson, 51, was arrested just after 7:30 p.m. on Monday by Chicago police in the 1500 block of East 65th Street.

He was taken by the Chicago Fire Department to the University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the chest and was later pronounced dead.

The victim was crossing the street just before 2:30 a.m. in the 700 block of West 95th Street when a grey Durango heading westbound struck him.
The victim suffered blunt force trauma to the body and was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, police said.
The teen was identified as the offender who shot and killed the 16-year-old victim, in the 400 block of East 88th Street, According to police.
Crews were on the scene around 5:30 a.m. at 119th Street and Eggleston Avenue.
