"Once this snow stops, hopefully overnight into the morning, and it slows down, and then the product and the traffic will take care of itself, we'll get to those neighborhood residential streets," Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Cole Stallard said.
Between 6 and 12 inches is expected for the Chicago area followed by severe cold in the days to follow.
The city got nearly 5 inches, while some far-reaching suburbs got as much as 11 inches.
While snow is obviously an important factor, it's also about wind and visibility.
The Department of Streets and Sanitation has deployed over 200 plow trucks and salt spreaders across the city to help prevent hazardous roadways in neighborhoods, bridges, and overpasses.
