On Thursday, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced the state will pay $160 million to help provide shelter and services for migrants. That money will create a large intake center and pay for new shelter space in Chicago.
The money from the state will be used to set up a new migrant intake center, help fund the city's plan for tent camps, and to provide support services for asylum seekers.
"I am grateful that the county and the state have heard our advocacy – their commitment to fund this mission," Johnson said.
