Metra confirmed a person was struck by an inbound UP-NW train near Barrington around 7:45 a.m. The Lake County Coroner's office confirmed the person died, but the victim's age and gender were not immediately available.
The pedestrian was confirmed to be a student at Barrington High School, according to a statement from District 220 Superintendent Dr. Craig Winelman.
Metra said an inbound Rock Island train hit the woman around 7:15 p.m. near 99th Street and Vincennes Avenue.
Extensive delays are anticipated.
New racks will be attached to trains to make room for more bikes.
