Police said the boat flipped at 7:33 p.m. just south of 31st Street Harbor.
Divers pulled him from the water, and he was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
The boat capsized near 31st Street Harbor Friday night. Darius Johnson reports from the scene where he talked with a woman who was on the boat, while Marybel Gonzalez reports from Insight Hospital and Medical Center.
A woman who had been onboard said the boat was a rented charter, and things started going wrong as they were pulling back into the harbor.
Jim “The Shark” Dreyer became the first person to swim Lake Michigan between two states in 1998. This year, his attempt will be longer.

Marybel Gonzalez reports that two people on the boat were rescued by a Good Samaritan and later taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan. The fire department said they both had non-life-threatening injuries.
