The locks will be distributed to residents of Evanston who own or lease a Kia, but they will have to register to receive one.
Late Monday, State Farm confirmed they are not writing policies for Kia and Hyundai owners in some states.
This comes amid a spike in thefts of Kias and Hyundais. As CBS 2's Sara Machi found out, you might be impacted even if your car is not one of the target models.
Ten thefts were reported in the Austin neighborhood between Jan.10 and 24.
Kias and Hyundais are the most frequent targets for thieves and they account for more than 40% of all cars stolen, but drivers of any vehicle can take advantage of the theft prevention program.
Chicago police are teaming up with the Cook County Sheriff's Office to help drivers protect their vehicles.
The couple said the thieves tried to steal her Kia twice, failed, and ended up coming back.

Between Jan. 1 and Jan. 5, at least 22 Hyundai and Kia vehicles were stolen in the 25th (Grand Central) police district.
Police said the victims parked their cars in these areas. When they returned, the vehicles were either gone or the steering columns were damaged after an attempt to steal the car.
