The fire charred the back of one house and spread to others on Oliver Street in Whiting.
The fire started in a detached garage, according to the Whiting Fire Department.
The fire was raging with towering flames and smoke at a house in the 1800 block of Oliver Street in Whiting.
Flames were seen shooting from the roof of the house. Firefighters had multiple lines in their efforts to put out the fire.
The fire started around 2 a.m. at a home near 144th Street and Railroad Avenue.
