Indiana State Police said a semi-trailer truck caught fire on I-65 near the Lowell Exit on Saturday morning, blocking all northbound lanes.
Indiana State Police said the truck overturned about two miles south of the Lowell exit, ending up in a field off the expressway.
Just before 9:30 a.m., a cleanup crew was working on I-65 near Crown Point. While working along the ramp from U.S. 231 to southbound I-65, they found the body lying in the ditch.
Northbound traffic was backed up all the way to U.S. 30 following the crash.
Multiple vehicles were involved in the crash.
Traffic was closed in both directions for a time after the shooting, but reopened by 8 p.m.
The victim was taken to Indianapolis in a medical transport helicopter, and his injuries are considered life-threatening.
