Police officers saw an SUV speeding and pulled it over in the 6700 block of South Ashland Avenue. During the stop, the man got back in the vehicle and drove off, and officers gave chase. The vehicle blew a stop light in the 7600 block of South Ashland Avenue and hit a car, and then a fire hydrant and a light pole.
About 7 p.m., the boy was walking in the 1400 block of West 79th Street when he ran into the street and was struck by the vehicle, police said.
