On Monday, Interim Columbia College President Jerry Tarrer announced that the cuts were "a logical and necessary step."
The school said it is laying off full-time faculty members and ending or merging some degree programs.
Students got to sharpen their skills with a sword and shield in honor of the release of "Gladiator II."
Some of Columbia College Chicago's 58 programs currently offered will be phased out or combined, the school said.
The murals were created by Columbia College faculty members Cheri Charlton and Cecelia Beaven, as well as Columbia College students.
