Chicago police said around 10:30 p.m., an unknown male was attempting to break into a vehicle in the 8700 block of South Dauphin Avenue when a man, 40, a resident and CCL holder, went outside and confronted the offender.
The video obtained by CBS News Chicago shows the black Camaro just as it was being stolen back on Dec. 3 around 2:48 a.m. The thieves got out of a different sedan, double-parked, and then waited as members of the crew broke the windows of the Camaro and took off.
A total of 11 cars have been stolen this month during the evening and early morning hours—the latest two were taken on Saturday.
Two infant girls were reported missing after the car they were in was stolen. The babies were later found left out in the cold.
Tomasz J. Kalembasa, 40, was charged with vehicular hijacking.
During the altercation, the offender was able to get away from the victim, enter the vehicle, and then drive away, last seen heading southeast on Northwest Highway.
Since July 31, eight overnight vehicle break-ins have been reported.
