At least five incidents occurred in the Douglas and Oakland neighborhoods where thieves walked up to people, pointed a gun, and took off with their property.
Police said the number of robbers varies from one to five African American men wearing black clothing and ski masks.
In one incident, the suspects forced a victim into a car and drove them to an ATM, forcing the victim to take out cash.
Chicago police said the teen was arrested by officers and the Mass Transit Tactical Team on Friday in the 5100 block of South Wentworth Avenue.
One of the incidents happened at an ATM drive-through lane in Avalon Park.
The robbers were only described as wearing hooded sweatshirts, masks, and gloves.
The incidents happened between Sept. 15 and Oct. 9. During the evening and early morning hours.
Video shows a masked suspect with a backpack strapped around the front of his body at the counter. The suspect then pulls a gun and stands up on the counter, pointing the gun.
The suspect, described as a white male between 5-feet-7 and 5-feet-9, walked into the store and approached the clerk with a knife.
