Garrett says 60 spent fuel rods are to remain near the nuclear plant grounds – some buried, some above ground, and all encased in concrete.
"I actually feel better about it now, after we received the overview from Zion Solutions," Garrett said. "But I'm not willing to walk and say because they did such a great job explaining the safety hazards, that as a representative in the area that we shouldn't be vigilant."
Garrett says she will need to see third party quarterly air and water quality tests to be assured Zion's spent fuel rods are not contaminating the air and water near the Lake Michigan shore.
