Abbatacola: Zambrano Leaves Game after 34 Pitches
By Matt Abbatacola--
CHICAGO (CBS) Carlos Zambrano left the game in the second inning with lower back soreness.
In the first inning, he walked one and struck out one. In the second inning, he issued a lead-off walk to Nate Schierholtz. Brandon Crawford bunted to the right side on the infield which caused Carlos Zambrano and first baseman Carlos Pena to attempt a play on the ball with no one covering first base. Second baseman Darwin Barney ran over to the bag and Pena flipped the ball towards first base. The ball was deflected by Barney and grabbed out of mid-air by Zambrano who then threw to second base as Crawford attempted to advance on the fumbled play at first. Zambrano's throw went wide of the bag as shortstop, Starlin Castro, attempted to make the play. Crawford was safe at second and Schierholtz advanced to third.
Zambrano gave up a single to the next batter, Miguel Tejada, scoring Schierholtz with Crawford advancing to third. After a first pitch ball to Eli Whiteside, Koyie Hill went to the mound followed by team trainer Mark O'Neal and manager Mike Quade. Zambrano left the game and Marcos Mateo come on in relief.
