Zambrano Outburst Was 'Premeditated,' But Wasn't Wrong
CHICAGO (WSCR) After being swept by the St. Louis Cardinals, and losing their second straight game thanks to a walk-off home run by Albert Pujols, Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano vented some frustration, saying the team was "embarrassing."
As negative as Zambrano's comments were, there are a lot of Cubs fans who actually agree with what he said, and are glad that he said it.
"I walked away from it kind of feeling that way too," Gordon Wittenmyer, of the Chicago Sun-Times, said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "For one thing, this wasn't a typical Zambrano meltdown, in the sense that when he usually loses control of his emotions it's a snap at the moment. And this one was, for whatever you think of it, was premeditated. It seemed calculated, but still ill advised. I mean, he's the last guy that should be speaking up and ripping the team, much less singling out a guy."
Zambrano has a history of outbursts like this one. Last season he got into an altercation with first baseman Derrek Lee in the dugout. The altercation led to Zambrano being suspended and placed in anger management.

So while he might be correct in his assessment of the club, Zambrano continues to put the organization in a compromising position, leading some to believe that this might be the last straw for the volatile right-hander.
"Something has got to happen," Wittenmyer said. "But I don't think he was wrong either."
