Your Chicago: The Girl Behind The Goat
(CBS) -- Stephanie Izard has become a restaurant superstar, first winning Top Chef in 2008 and then opening The Girl and the Goat in 2010.
Now, she has struck again.
The Girl and the Goat opened in 2010 on West Randolph Street in Chicago's West Loop, a street that has become a worldwide destination for food lovers. The specialty: goat.
"My last name, Izard, in French it's 'eezard,' it's a mountain goat that lives in the Pyrenees Mountains," she says.
People flocked and haven't stopped. Last year, "Saveur" magazine named The Girl and the Goat as the best new restaurant in America.
Now, she has a new, second spot, with a different vibe: Little Goat.
"It was just very crowded. I was like, 'We need to open a second restaurant," Izard says. "We should call it Little Goat."
The seven-day-a-week diner, bakery, bar and general store is open from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Is she biting off more than she can chew?
Maybe. But that hasn't stopped her from sending her brand into overdrive. Izard taste-tests every dish every day, careful to preserve the quality and success she has worked hard to achieve.
"As long as I get to cook and talk to people and have fun, that's all that matters," Izard says.
