Young Heat Fan Yells 'Good Effort!' To Miami Players, Becomes Internet Sensation
BOSTON (CBS) -- As recently as five years ago, you may have observed something funny or peculiar while watching a sporting event, and you may have chuckled, and that was likely the end of it now. These days, though, even the tiniest thing can quickly turn into an Internet phenomenon.
Enter "Good Job, Good Effort" kid.
This young fan was indeed a great fan, because even though his favorite team lost to the Celtics on Tuesday night, he felt compelled to cheer for them. In a day and age filled with 24/7 sports coverage, most of which is overwhelmingly negative, it was an admirable thing to see out of a fan.
And it was also hilarious.
As the Heat walked toward the tunnel to their locker room after the Heat's 94-90 loss, the ESPN microphones picked up one fan's encouraging words to LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Co.
"Good job! Good effort!" he yelled. "Good effort! Good job! Good job! Good effort! Good job! Good effort! Good job! Good job!"
Almost immediately, "Good Effort" was a trending term on Twitter in the United States, and Internet memes (like this one, this one and this one) started popping up left and right.
Now it's just a matter of time, probably, before you see the young fan interviewed on every TV network and radio station under the sun, until his star inevitably fades after a couple of days. Such is life in the Internet age.
