Yankees Sign Girardi To 4-Year Extension
(CBS) Joe Girardi isn't going anywhere.
Though reports had indicated Girardi, a Peoria native, was interested in the Cubs' managing job, he and the Yankees agreed to a four-year contract extension on Wednesday.
Girardi had reportedly been Theo Epstein's top candidate to replace Dale Sveum on the North Side.
Reports indicate the Cubs were willing to pay Girardi more than the Yankees, but he ultimately decided to stay in New York. 670 The Score contributor Jon Heyman reports Girardi will get $16 million over the four years.
The Cubs are also reportedly interested in Manny Acta, Sandy Alomar Jr., A.J. Hinch and Dave Martinez.
