Man Charged With DUI In Wrong-Way Kennedy Crash With Semi
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was charged with DUI after he allegedly drove a minivan the wrong way into a semi early Tuesday on the Kennedy Expressway on the Northwest Side.
Andrejus Zenovas, 39, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving the wrong way and disobeying highway restrictions, Illinois State Police spokesman David Roman said.
He allegedly drove south onto the northbound exit at North Avenue about 12:30 a.m. and went about 25 yards before the minivan crashed head-on into a semi, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Rodney Collins said.
Police said he was under influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
The minivan hadn't picked up much speed and the driver of the semi tried to merge left to avoid the collision, Collins said.
