Wrigleyville Residents Air Grievances With Cubs
(CBS) – Wrigleyville residents aren't taking any chances – making sure construction stops in the evening when it's supposed to at their namesake ballpark.
Locals have other concerns as well, CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli reports.
Terie Kata says the home of the bleacher bums was also the home of a large rodent population. Now, with the bleachers gone, she says rats are overrunning the neighborhood.
Just this week, the Cubs were denied permission to keep the backhoes, pile drivers and jack-hammers operating well into the night. Mayor Emanuel said there would be no extension of working hours.
But despite that decision, residents pushed for reassurance that there will be no around-the-clock construction at the historic park.
"It's not happening," Cubs vice president Mike Lufrano said. "We understand and appreciate we're in a neighborhood."
One resident suggested Cubs executives move into the rooftop businesses that were recently purchased by the team. She says then they will have a sense of just how loud and annoying the construction really is.
