Workers Perform Maintenance On Notre Dame's 'Touchdown Jesus'
CHICAGO (CBS) The famous "Touchdown Jesus" mural that overlooks Notre Dame's football stadium is undergoing what the university is calling "preventative maintenance."
Because of the harsh weather in northern Indiana, the university says that they must conduct work on the mosaic, which resides on the side of the Hesburgh Library, every 15 years. It was last done in 1994.
Workers are washing the surfaces and the adhesive in the stone seams is being replaced.
"It's pretty much a straightforward maintenance project," Douglas Schlagel, Notre Dame's director of construction and quality assurance, told the school's official website. "So there's nothing very magic about it."
