Worker Hurt When Crane Tips On I-57 Bridge
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A crane tipped on its side on an overpass over Interstate 57 Monday morning, leaving a construction worker injured.
The accident happened around 10 a.m. at 99th Street and Genoa Avenue, over the curve where I-57 turns from west to south.
The crane hit the worker in his chest, knocking him down, Perez said.
The worker, a 59-year-old man, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious to critical condition, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said.
A second worker, the operator of the crane, was "rattled" and was also taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said.
Rosado said the second worker was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park in good condition.
Both men were conscious as they were taken to hospitals, police said.
