"I really want to congratulate you for having the highest attendance for the first week of school in the entire city of Chicago," Brizard announced.
Principal Frank Embil was definitely surprised.
"We are surprised that out of over 600 schools in Chicago, we came in number one, all because of the hard work that the parents and the school did," he said.
Embil said the pupils at Woodlawn Elementary love coming to school. But will his school be joining a handful of others in implementing a longer school day?
"Ah no… I don't know," he said.
Attendance at Woodlawn was over 90 percent during the first week.
